- Since May 2026, Russia has imposed restrictions on a number of products exported from Armenia, including fruits and vegetables, more than 90% of whose exports had previously gone to the Russian market. Of particular significance are apricots, peaches, strawberries and sweet cherries, which are among the main fruits and berries exported from Armenia.
- In 2025, Armenia exported 44,011 tonnes of apricots, 11,549 tonnes of peaches (including nectarines), 4,396 tonnes of sweet cherries and 1,841 tonnes of strawberries.
- Given the restrictions imposed on the Russian market, the EU is being considered as a possible alternative export market for Armenian fruit. In this context, it is important to understand the EU market’s import volumes and main suppliers in order to determine the competitive environment Armenian fruit may face.
- In 2025, EU countries imported 157 thousand tonnes of apricots, 861 thousand tonnes of peaches (including nectarines), 104 thousand tonnes of sweet cherries and 453 thousand tonnes of strawberries. The main supplier of these fruits to the EU market is Spain. In particular, it provided 49% of EU apricot imports, 68% of peach (including nectarine) imports, 39% of sweet cherry imports and 50% of strawberry imports.
